Fat
Dietary fats play a crucial role. Diets high in saturated and trans fats, found in foods like butter, cheese, red meat, margarine, and certain processed items, are linked to increased AFib risk.
Healthy sources of polyunsaturated fats, like those found in salmon and sardines, could have differing effects compared to less healthy sources like corn or soybean oil. Emphasising a balanced diet remains vital for heart health, indicating occasional consumption of saturated fat-containing foods as part of a holistic dietary approach.
However, replacing saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats might not be an outright solution, as some studies suggest a slight elevation in AFib risk in such cases, too.
